Assembly of Z-Axis

For this part of the build we will be using:
1 x V-Slot Linear Rail 20 x 60mm (Length: 190mm) 2 x 8mm Screw Bearing (688Z 8x16x5)
2 x Z-Axis Plates (part of the plate set)
1 x 8mm Acme Nut Block
2 x M5 Nyloc Nuts
2 x Low Profile Screws M5x20mm
1 x ACME Lead Screw (cut to length)
1 x Flexible Coupling (¼”x 8mm)
2 x 8mm Shim
2 x Lock Collar (8mm)
6 x Low Profile Screws M5x15mm
6 x Spring Washers
6 x Standard Washers
Tee Nuts as required for spindle/tool mount
Thread ACME nut block onto ACME lead screw, with the hex nut closest to V-Slot.
Place a locking collar onto each end.
followed by 8mm shims on each end,
and lastly a bearing on each end.
Once set up, install the upper Z plate using three M5x15mm low profile screws, each with a spring washer and standard washer. Lightly assemble finger tight.
Install required tee-nuts to front of Z-Axis V-Slot plate. You can use masking tape to hold these in place so they don’t fall out when you are attaching the Z-Axis to the gantry plates.
(Yes, we forgot these on this build and had to slip off the bottom plate and add them later on!)
Install screw assembly onto the V-Slot and top cap and then the lower plate three M5x15mm low profile screws, each again with a spring washer and standard washer stack.
Adjust the end caps as parallel as possible to the V-Slot.
Snug down all bolts on the end caps. Check alignment.
Once snugged down, adjust the threaded rod so that 10-12mm extends beyond the top plate. Lock off the locking collar on the top plate using the grub screw.
Pushing the lead screw towards the top plate, simultaneously pull on the bottom locking collar to apply tension to the lead screw, before finally locking off the grub screws on the bottom collar.
When done correctly, there should be no lateral movement or play.
